The common old has been around for as long as man has existed. So of course it’s not surprising that there are lots of old wives tales and, myths linked to it and just as many remedies. One common belief is that healthy people are immune to the common cold. This is a fallacy as whether or not your immune system is strong you can get the cold.
While Vitamin C is a good idea, it does not in fact affect the cold virus. No amount of orange juice will stop the cold if you already affected with the virus. Studies done have shown that vitamin C may help reduce the symptoms of the common cold, but not cure or prevent it. It is also important to know that it can be dangerous to have too much vitamin C.
Of course just about everyone may have heard the saying about feeding a cold. To date there is no scientific evidence that eating more will help anyone get over a cold quicker.
Cold weather is not the main reason people get the common cold. If that was the case, no one would get it except during the winter months. Studies have not been able to confirm that wearing wet clothes will more than likely lead to having a cold.
Preventative Tips
Despite all of this, having a healthy diet rich in vitamins and minerals is still advisable for a healthier you. Plus, it is always good to err on the side of caution. Washing you hands with soap and water for at least 15 seconds is a habit worth developing. While hand sanitizers are good if you can’t wash, they are not as effective as washing.
